PAINTING & FINISHING
Icastica Studio products are hand painted using some of the highest quality leather paints and finishing available.
The paint used by Icastica Studio is strong and durable and is finished with a resistant polish. The paint can be compromised if submitted to repeated stress, including but not limited to persistent scratching, rubbing, pulling, or if exposed to liquids or sustained direct sunlight.
Each of the Icastica Studio leather appliqués are individually hand painted and this allows every item to be one of a kind and a genuine piece of art. Although naturally the paint doesn’t stain or fade and the products are built for everyday use, the painting and finishing process is done by hand and therefore the products have to be treated with love and care.
Suede, however, cannot be treated with any finishing and therefore, although the paint sinks into the leather pores and gets a solid root, no protective coating is applied and consequently, the painted area has to be strictly protected from the above described conditions.
Icastica Studio uses genuine, carefully selected, leather from top quality Italian tanneries.
Leather is a strong and durable material, however, as with all genuine leather products, it requires a little care in order to ensure that it maintains its beauty throughout the ageing process.
Icastica Studio recommends only using leather conditioning cream (which has been tested on a provided sample of the same leather first and allowed to dry for 24hr) to facilitate durability, shine and hydration. The cream must only be used on the non-painted leather and never on suede, nubuck, nappa or any part of the appliqués. Any other cleaning products must never be used on leather as they may cause permanent damage.
Grain leather can be dusted or brushed with a soft brush, or wiped clean, to maintain brightness and shine. Suede can be brushed with a soft suede brush or rubbed gently with a plastic foam block, while taking care not to compromise the painted areas.
Icastica Studio home accessories are designed for indoor use only and exposure of handbags to heavy rain is not recommended. If the item is going to be continuously exposed to bad weather, it would be best protected by a waterproof cover to help keep the leather dry. In case of contact with water, allow wet leather to dry slowly and naturally in an airy location.
Do not dry clean, machine wash, tumble dry, use soap or detergent of any kind, use solvents or bleach, starch or iron, expose to a flame or sustained direct sunlight, expose to liquids such perfume, after shaves etc.
To ensure a long life for every item, when stored away, leather should be kept in a cool, dry, well ventilated place and wrapped in acid-free tissue paper. Storage of leather in plastic containers is not advisable because this can lead to discoloration of the surface.
HANDBAGS & PURSES
Handbags and purses should not be overburdened as leather has the ability to mould to a shape. This may result in permanent bumps and lumps on the surface. For the same reason, handbags and purses should not be folded as permanent creases could occur.
Icastica Studio only uses high quality genuine leather, however, rarely, some black leather can naturally stain without changing shade as a consequence of their specific finishing. All Icastica Studio’s leather goes through vigorous testing, therefore, before purchase, if the rare scenario occurs, Icastica Studio will always inform its customers. In this situation, it is highly recommended to avoid wearing the bag on light coloured fabric.
Like with all handmade products and natural materials, the ageing process for paint as well as leather, could slightly change features over time and with regular use, especially with products like handbags and purses.
Icastica Studio appliqués are composed of different elements, individually hand cut, hand painted and manually assembled, making every decoration one of a kind. The leather appliqués as well as their painted areas, will modify their features over time and through use, giving the product a distinctive look and reflection of the owner’s lifestyle.
High quality leather develops a patina, a shimmer on the surface, creating a personality to the product like an enduring symbol of ownership unique for every user. Over time all effects of natural use, from the distressed look of scratches and scuffs to the changing shade in some places and the moulding of a shape, contribute to creating a timeless piece with its own unique personality. The patina is just a manifestation of the natural ageing process of a natural product; it does not affect the longevity, in fact, on the contrary, it only increases the charm of the product.
